Forex Trading Participants
In the world of foreign exchange trading, anyone can get involved as long as they are interested in making some profits from the most liquid market available worldwide in these days.
In the market of foreign exchange trading, the participants have been divided into several levels of access. This is different from the system that is used at the stock markets where everyone will be eligible for access to the same prices.
The top level participant in a foreign exchange trading market is occupied by the inter-bank market. This consists of the largest security dealers as well as commercial banks.
The inter-bank market is responsible for handling most of the commercial turnover as well as the speculative activity in trading which totals at a large number through every single day. Billions of dollars may also be traded daily by a large bank. Some of the trading that is carried out by the bank may be requested by the customers on behalf of the customers whereas some other parts of this trading are as well traded by the bank itself.
There are brokers as well in this trading of foreign exchange. They run large businesses, they facilitate the trading of interbank and they manage to earn some fees claimed to be small by matching anonymous counterparts.
There is already an efficient system that is controlled electronically. The broker squawk box gives traders the power to listen to the ongoing trading of interbank. Traders can also be listened to in most of the trading rooms. Yet, the turnover is smaller these days.
Commercial companies have been important parts in this foreign exchange trading market. These companies make use of foreign exchanges to pay for either services or goods. Even though the transactions in which these companies are involved usually trade small amount of money compared to speculators or banks, they provide long term important factor in order to increase the value of a certain currency since these companies maintain the flows of the trade.
The trades that these companies make have only a little, if any, short term impact that will affect the rate on the market. Yet, an unpredictable impact may occur if some multinational companies cover very large positions due to exposures which the other participants in the market may have not noticed yet.
Another important participant is the national central banks which attempts to control the supply of money as well as inflation and/or rates of interest. These central banks often have either unofficial or official rate targeted to their currencies.
A large portion of the transactions done in the foreign exchange market is speculative. This means someone or some institution involved do not really hope to take delivery of their currency. To compete in the forex trading market, Hedge funds have been offering speculation service since 1996.
Investment management firms who manage large account on customer’s behalf are also considered to be important here. The firms use this to facilitate transactions that require foreign securities.
